Stella Sassen Photography – Johannesburg & Cape Town

Hello Cape Town !!

Hi !! Welcome to my new blog and website 🙂 A HUGE thank you to Jo from Pretty Pretty who worked so hard on getting it exactly the way I wanted it xxx

Drumroll please …….

We have decided to move to Cape Town !!!

There are loads of reasons, but mainly because I want to be close to my family – I have been in Joburg now for over 10 years and I love this city…but I have missed them terribly. So if all goes according to plan, we will be moving down sometime in the next few months, probably around September. I will still be coming up to Joburg for weddings and shoots regularly, and will have a studio to work from if you want to book your shoots. Once we are down there, I will posts Joburg schedules and at the moment I am booking flights around my weddings and newborns that are booking or confirmed. So, I will still be looking after my Joburg clients…never fear! 🙂 And weddings booked in Joburg will not incur any travel costs until end of Feb 2014.
I have been so blessed with amazing and loyal clients over these last years and I will do my best to make sure that you are looked after as much as possible…

We are still in the process of selling the house, so I will keep you update on the blog and on Facebook with everything that is happening.

Here’s to a new adventure!

PS: The blog might be a bit higgeldy piggeldy still – I am loading old posts as I go along 🙂

We grew up together. We went through the awkward teenage years together. We smoked behind our parent’s backs. We drank cheap liquor and learnt about boys (sometimes at the same time:) We snuck out in the middle of the night and did mostly nothing. We cried and laughed. We got our hearts broken.

And now its lots of years later, and we don’t have to hide our cigarettes and we can afford champagne, but we still cry and laugh together. And when life gets tough, we have made a pact to be there for each other. Real friends are a gift…treasure them xoxoxo

It has been crazy the first few weeks of January, but before the year runs away into February, I thought I would share some things. I wake up every day and list things that I am thankful for, that way even when its a bad day, you have to find the good…so what better way to start the year than with the same thing.

For my husband – without him I never would have been able to follow my dream, to walk out of a corporate job and into the photography field. For his gentle soul, for his patience, for his integrity and all the things that make him so very special.

I am thankful to have had another year with my mom, who is fighting cancer with all she has…and my wondeful dad, who supports her and stays rocksolid for everyone. Don’t give up, stay strong, we love you both and want you to stick around for a loooong time still…

For clients – it still amazes me that people will actually pay me to do this; it makes me weepy and emotional when I get a thank you email from someone telling me how much the images mean to them. For a long time, the hardest thing for me to say was “I am a photographer” – it took a while before I could own that, before I thought I am ok-ish at this…now I am at a point where I want to get better, learn more, experiment more and grow…and I never want to lose this passion I have. Doing this makes me happy 🙂

For mentors – people who helped me in this business, who unselfishly give advice, share their knowledge and experience and listen when you are doubting yourself.

For my friends – for understanding when they don’t see or hear from me for weeks (ok, sometimes months) because I have to edit, shoot a wedding, hide under a rock form overwhelmedness ( I know, I don’t care if it’s not a real word 🙂

Oh, and I’m extremely thankful for wine – without which I would never make it through wedding season 😉
And on that note – I hope you have the most wonderful 2012!!! Have a glass of something, dream big and worry small… and above all, be the best you can be!!!

Kruger Park

We’re back after a too short break. I love being in the bush, and even though it was only for a few days, I feel more prepared for the next few months.
Here are a few images…

Will You Marry Me???

Last night was very special for us…Derek’s “little girl” got engaged!!

Craig did the whole thing…got down on his knees and made a moving speech, made everyone cry and surprised Shannon with a beautiful proposal…aaaahhh. Seriously, what more could a girl ask for ???

Shannon told him once that she wanted to get engaged when her family and friends were around, so he did just that…everyone was there…and everyone was in on itSmile He has been planning for weeks! So, in the guise of a belated birthday party for Shaz, we all arrived and tried not to let her in on the real reason we were all there. Now Craig is a very energetic person at the most normal of times so imagine for a moment a man nearly exploding with nervous energy, a lot of cigarettes and a few jaegies (for courage) later…and boy, did he do good!

And after he made a fake speech for the fake birthday party, the paparazi was on hand to capture these wonderful moments… Congratulations you two! We love you LOTS and know that you will have the most wonderful life together… mwah mwah xxx
