Stephanie + Ross | Botswana

We’re getting married in Botswana, they said. On a game reserve. Well, I can do that, I replied…trying not to embarrass the new clients by jumping up and doing a awkward (but rhythmic) happy dance πŸ™‚ So, nearly a year later, off we went in the 4×4, armed with lists of camera equipment and serial numbers just in case), crossed the border into one of my favourite countries…vast open spaces, amazing people and hospitality. Tough job I have.

Stephanie and Ross’s wedding were all about the people, friends and family had come from all over the world to be there to celebrate with them… and as they got married on a clear Spring day overlooking the vast savannah, there were tears and smiles as everyone shared in their excitement and joy.

We did the creatives the normal bush way – jump on the back of the game vehicle and shout STOP numerous times when we see pretty light and probably irritate the poor ranger by doing this repeatedly and annoying loud…I tell you getting in and out of those vehicles with cameras is an art πŸ™‚ Not to mention a wedding dress and heels… Once we reached the lake, we wanted to take some time and enjoy the setting, but there were 2 rather grumpy hippos not too far into the water making it known that they were not at all impressed – it is safe to say that all of us were a little nervous but the light was so pretty, we had to stay. With one eye on them, one of the ranger, we managed to not get eaten and stayed until the sun set over the water and Mokolodi… absolute bliss and peace.

Steph and Ross, we wish you much joy and thank you for the opportunity to share this day with you!

Special mention to the awesome Ian from Vision on Fire, Corinna (as always) and my hubby, that drove us all over the show xxx

Bronwyn + Stuart – Kuthaba Bush Lodge

By now you know how I love the bush – the smells, the big skies, the sound of cicadas as the sun sets…the African-ness of it. What better place to get married than surrounded by bushveld, under a massive old Fig Tree, open plains around you. Yup, it makes me happy.

I had the pleasure of assisting Andrea at Bron and Stu’s wonderful wedding at Kuthaba Bush Lodge in the Waterberg – here are just a few of the images from the day…

Marcelle + Dion | Aloe Ridge

Sunday morning broke clear, no clouds, blue skies…well, that changed. A LOT. By the time it was time for Marcelle and Dion’s ceremony, a gale force wind had come up and it was raining hard. But nothing was going to put a damper on this day.

Marcelle and Dion chose Aloe Ridge for their wedding – the ceremony site and Hedwigs restaurant is situated in the mountain, surrounded by the most beautiful countryside imaginable. A perfect setting for a perfect celebration. After the chuppah, we darted off in the 4×4 to try and get some images before the rain came again…and even though the wind was howling, it stayed away just long enough for us to get some great images of the two of them. Marcelle donned some gumboots and braved the wind like a trooper, in and out of the game vehicle, ignoring baboons, to the point of climbing on a bridge wall (their idea may I add πŸ˜‰ These two are fabulous!!! They have such a strong connection and they are so beautiful, inside and out, that it makes me love what I do even more. (Insert soppy love song)

Thank you both for an fantastic, adventurous day – I loved shooting your wedding and feel very blessed to have been a part of it.

BTW…the food at Hedwigs is great!!!

Isabelle + Jason | Avianto

When I met with Isabelle last year (she was out here from the UK), I knew that this was going to be a wonderful wedding…how could it not be??? She is delightful, sweet and gentle, just downright nice…and throughout our correspondence the last few months, I have just come to like her more and more πŸ™‚ In her emails, you could tell she was so excited and happy to be marrying Jason. And the feeling was definitely mutual – a few days before the wedding, I received the loveliest email from Jason (I hope they don’t mind me sharing it with you) :

“We haven’t met yet but as the butterflies start waking up deep in my belly I wanted to drop you a quick note to thank you for your email this morning to Bella and for making her so happy! I can’t wait to meet you. It is going to be a great day to be alive!” … sigh… who wouldn’t want to marry him?!

So, needless to say, by the time the wedding day arrived, I was so excited to finally get to see this special couple together.

What a wedding it was! They made sure it was personal to them, adding little touches from handmade programs to Jason dancing down the isle with his best men and opening up the dance floor with a very fast swing number. It was them. totally. and uniquely. There were some tears during the ceremony (well, a lot of tears actually), McDonalds cups (yes indeed), laughter and above all, a very personal message. And then they were finally married!

Off we went in search of some photo spots…attempting to drive in 4×4 territory without a 4×4…and found this gorgeous piece of veld next to a lake. Only problem is that the gate is locked and we can’t get to it…well, let me just say – Isabelle, you rock!!! Up and over a fence with a lacy wedding dress is a manoeuvre most brides should definitely practise πŸ˜‰ Thank you for giving us loads of time and being such huge sports!!

Belle and Jase, you were wonderful and I thank you for trusting me with your precious memories. I know that you will be happy, your connection and sense of fun will carry you through anything!

Franziska + Marius | The Cradle Restaurant

The last few days (it feels like months!) have been pretty much wet and dreary in Joburg – continuous rain, more rain and then some more. Very un-Joburgy weather and a solid introduction to winter…a lot of wedding photographers up here have been doing a lot of praying and thumb holding so we can get that all important window of pretty light, cloudy skies, but most importantly, at least half an hour of no rain.

We were blessed at this wedding that the weather held out so that Franziska and Marius could have their African wedding in the veld under huge trees…what a beautiful setting! And what a wonderful, sweet couple – congratulations to you both and may you be as lucky as you were with the weather all your lives πŸ™‚ Thanks Jeanette for letting me assist πŸ™‚
