Emma + Brendan – Tartaruga Lodge Mozambique

A morning wedding on a quiet beach, family and friends that joined for a relaxed weekend, a lazy lunch after a dip in the ocean…now does that not sound perfect?

Emma and Brendan wanted an intimate wedding at their favourite spot in Mozambique .. and it was so very special. Clouds rolled over in the morning, then cleared into a hot, gorgeous day…they stood with their toes in the sand as the vows were exchanged and surrounded by all that beauty, they were married. Guests ran into the ocean straight after the ceremony to cool off, then relaxed at the pool whilst the seafood buffet was being prepared. No formalities, no rush, just time spent with those closest to them to celebrate their love.

Thank you both for letting me witness your wonderful celebration, it was an honour!

And I can now drive the 4×4 🙂 After navigating the deep, soft sand in Mozambique, I am ready to go forth and explore!

Shanna + Victor | St Fort Country House | Clarens Wedding – Part 1

I have fallen in love with Clarens…this quaint little town nestled in foothills of the Maluti Mountains is the perfect backdrop for a wedding. It is built around a central square where people sit and drink coffee or wine in the afternoon sun, art galleries, antiques and is surrounded by some of the prettiest countryside in SA. So when Shanna and Victor said they were getting married at St Fort, I was excited (to say the least) 🙂 And on meeting them, I knew this would be one of my favourite weddings of the year – they are relaxed, easy-going, gentle people, one of those couples you want to keep as friends…people that realise that the wedding is about getting married, that it is about sharing joy with those closest to you and that it is a celebration of finding the one that makes you smile every day. It was an absolute joy photographing this wedding – thank you both so very much!!

And because there were so much that I loved at this wedding, I am blogging it in 2 parts … here is part one of their day.

Xolisiwe + Tshele | Lesotho Sun

As we drive towards Lesotho from Joburg, the lanscape slowly starts to change – the flat monotony gives way to green foothills and mountains and the air gets sweeter. Once through the border, we make our way through rural villages, endless sweeping fields where teenage herdboys tend their livestock and we marvel at the electric blue sky dotted with puffy white clouds. This country is beautiful!

Xolisiwe and Tshele tied the knot in her hometown of Maseru, a bustling African city that lies in a valley surrounded by mountains. The thing I love most about African weddings is the energy and joy of it – the close and extended families come together and celebrate with abandon…they sing and dance and rejoice. From the church to the reception, this is the very definition of love.

Thank you Tshele for letting us drag you out of the city for the creatives (well, how can you say no when your gorgeous new wife asks so nicely 😉 and Xolisiwe, thank you for being so sweet ! You were the most beautiful bride and we wish you vast amounts of happiness xx

A special thank you to Q’s dad who drove our 4×4 out of the TINY patch of mud that we managed to get stuck in 🙂 no comments please!

And a huge thank you to my second, Corinna, who learnt to shoot Canon rather quickly when her Nikon packed up 😉

Stephanie + Ross | Botswana

We’re getting married in Botswana, they said. On a game reserve. Well, I can do that, I replied…trying not to embarrass the new clients by jumping up and doing a awkward (but rhythmic) happy dance 🙂 So, nearly a year later, off we went in the 4×4, armed with lists of camera equipment and serial numbers just in case), crossed the border into one of my favourite countries…vast open spaces, amazing people and hospitality. Tough job I have.

Stephanie and Ross’s wedding were all about the people, friends and family had come from all over the world to be there to celebrate with them… and as they got married on a clear Spring day overlooking the vast savannah, there were tears and smiles as everyone shared in their excitement and joy.

We did the creatives the normal bush way – jump on the back of the game vehicle and shout STOP numerous times when we see pretty light and probably irritate the poor ranger by doing this repeatedly and annoying loud…I tell you getting in and out of those vehicles with cameras is an art 🙂 Not to mention a wedding dress and heels… Once we reached the lake, we wanted to take some time and enjoy the setting, but there were 2 rather grumpy hippos not too far into the water making it known that they were not at all impressed – it is safe to say that all of us were a little nervous but the light was so pretty, we had to stay. With one eye on them, one of the ranger, we managed to not get eaten and stayed until the sun set over the water and Mokolodi… absolute bliss and peace.

Steph and Ross, we wish you much joy and thank you for the opportunity to share this day with you!

Special mention to the awesome Ian from Vision on Fire, Corinna (as always) and my hubby, that drove us all over the show xxx
